Inspirations in Nature with Thomas Estill
I am a retired science educator, having worked for almost 40 years in formal and informal education. I was a Vermont State Park Summer Naturalist from 1979-1981, have led nature activities in the summer for private children camps, and school districts in the past, and have participated in New England Reptile and Amphibian studies, Bald Eagle Surveys, Fall Hawk Watches, Winter Bird Counts, Bat Population and numerous other natural history citizen/scientists projects.
For the past 2.5 years, I have been visiting Pine Hill Park onregular basis (once a week), making bird, mammal, wildflower and other observations of the wildlife in the park, and keeping nature journal of what I have observed. My students have planted American Chestnuts in the park, in hopes that tree may return to Rutland, VT.
I would like to share what I have learned and observed with the public, in hopes that it will inspire them to become stewards of our natural areas in the Rutland area.
