The Annual Rutland Recreation and Parks Department Youth Basketball Tournament presented by Velco, First Light Technologies, and Comcast is set to kickoff. Games will begin Saturday February 25th and run throughout the week ending March 3rd.  Girls and boys in the 5th and 6th grades from surrounding communities and Rutland City will hit the courts. We invite you to stop by one of locations over the course of the week to check out these young athletes and support the game of basketball. Boating Safety

If you are 12 or over and plan on driving a boat, this course is for you. State law requires that you take a Boating Safety course if your birthday is after January 1, 1974. The program is free of charge. Class size is limited to 25. Preregistration required.

Rock Climbing

Location: Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center

Instructors: GMRCC Staff

 

There are 7 levels in our climbing program. Intro is for those that are brand new to rock climbing; Level 1 is for climbers who have successfully passed intro or have had previous exposure to rock climbing; Level 2 is for climbers who are ready to learn how to be a true climber and climb set routes; Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 build on previous learned skills. Rock climbing is a lifetime skill and an excellent way for your child to participate in a full body fitness program. The introduction and Level 1 classes include a t-shirt and if you successfully pass any level you now receive a patch.

Community Garden Plots

The Recreation Department oversees the community gardens located off Woodstock Avenue, behind McDonald’s and on Allen Street next to the Rutland MS/HS Allen St. Campus. Water and shed with shared tools available on-site. Grow your own food!

 The fee to rent ranges from $15 - $40 - depending on the size of the plot. Non-residents add $11 to the fee. A refundable clean-up deposit of $25 cash is required. Registration for Rutland City residents starts March 1st and April 1st for non-residents.  Call Cindi at 282-1092 for more information.
