55th Annual Halloween Parade

You are invited to join us for the

55th Annual Halloween Parade

Saturday, October 25th 6:30 PM

Make your way to Downtown Rutland for the annual display of Halloween spirit. Marching bands, amazing floats, and an array of costumed characters will parade through the streets of Downtown Rutland.

Parade entries will only be taken through online form submission or at the Rutland Recreation and Parks registration office (16 North Street Extension, Monday-Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM). DEADLINE for parade entries is October 9th.

Leaf Chase 10K Trail Race

Come enjoy a beautiful run on the new Carriage Trail! Registration and parking will be at Giorgetti, from there you will be bused over to Proctor to start the race. This is the 10th Annual Leaf Chase and it will be the first race on the new Carriage Trail.

Bus leaves at 9:30 AM

$20 pre-registration

$25 race day registration

Fee includes commemorative 10th Annual Leaf Chase Shirt and lunch after the race.

LIVE on PEGTV: Pumpkin Princess 2014

The votes are in at the schools, but now it is time to see which Pumpkin Princess will be crowned Queen! Join host Stephanie Wilson as she interviews each Pumpkin Princess, and found out at the end of the show who will be Pumpkin Queen in the 2014 Halloween Parade on Saturday October 25th. The show will be LIVE on PEGTV Wednesday October 8th at 7:00PM.

All Pumpkin Princesses will ride in style the night of the parade, with cars provided by Kinney Motors!

Snap shots of all the Princesses on the night of the parade and tag #pumpkinprincess #kinneyaudi #rutlandrec best pics will get a prize! More details to follow!

7th ANNUAL DUATHLON TOMORROW!

Run and bike throughout Pine Hill Trails.  5K trail run followed by 10K loop for mountain biking. Participate as an individual or as a team.  Low key and fun for all levels! Fun and yummy prizes will be awarded from our local farmer's market. $15 Individual or $20 Team.  We're hoping you can join us for our 7th annual Pine Hill Park Duathlon Saturday 9/20 - tomorrowThe race was erroneously listed as being on Sunday in some recent press and I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. 
 
The race begins at 10:00 AM with registration beginning at 9:15 and consists of a 5k trail run followed by a 10k mountain bike. Fun and yummy prizes will be awarded from our local farmer's market. You may compete as an individual or team, so come on out and join us for a fun morning of playing in the park.
 
Later tomorrow afternoon, we'll be hosting a high school race for the Lakes Region Interscholastic Mountain Bike Series. That race, based in the quarry, begins at 3:30 and we're expecting between 80 and 100 riders from throughout New England, including our very own Rutland Recreation Mountain Bike Team and local riders from the Killington Mountain School. Please come check it out and cheer on the riders as they enjoy our beautiful trails.

Jenni Johnson and the Junketters Concert in the Park

Jenni and the Junketeers perform a wide variety of music from swinging jazz and blues to toe tapping rock. Jenni has performed the song "Moonlight in Vermont" around the world in places such as Yaroslavl and Rostov in Russia, Paris, France, and Montreal, Canada. She has sharpened her musical skills with opportunities working with national jazz/blues musicians from New Orleans. 

Jenni has become a regular presence around the State of Vermont. Her full, smooth voice offers an ideal format for the collection of American jazz classics, as well as, blues, swing and funk music. Your audience will be mesmerized by her unique style and versatile renditions. She'll have them smiling from their souls, while their feet dance happily to the beat. Jenni has four album cd's available. Her band includes Rutland instrumentalist Glendon Ingalls on string and electric bass as well as sousaphone on New Orleans type tunes.

PossumHaw Concert in the Park

PossumHaw is a dynamic, original bluegrass and country-folk quintet from Burlington, Vermont. The band has evolved to combine award-winning, evocative songwriting and singing with top-notch bluegrass instrumentation since 2004. PossumHaw offers stellar vocal harmonies, original music, and impressive acoustic instrumentation on stage.

PossumHaw has produced four albums: Waiting and Watching (2014), Fortune's Name (2010), Madtom (2007) and Split-rail (2005). The band has made appearances at places such as the Champlain Valley Folk Festival, First Night Burlington, Higher Ground, the Long Trail Festival, and at other venues throughout the Northeast.

Band member credentials: Colby Crehan (lead vocalist) was named Vermont Vocalist of the Year, and her song "Road to Mora" was named Vermont Song of the Year. She also performs as lead singer with the Bluegrass Gospel Project with former members of Northern Lights and Breakaway. Stephen Waud (mandolin) also performs with the Modern Grass Quintet. Mitch Barron (upright bass) was a member of Bread and Bones before joining PossumHaw.

On Saturday June 21st, Pine Hill Park Trails at Giorgetti Park will host the 2014 Mountain Bike Championships of the Vermont Senior Games! Click here for the course map. Mountain Biking is just one of 22 different sport championship competitions offered through Vermont Senior Games.
